Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orientation treating agent for a liquid crystal cell with which a liquid crystal oriented film having a low graded orientation angle stable to a heat treatment is obtainable and a uniform liquid crystal display of a high contrast is obtainable and the orientation treating agent for the liquid crystal cell which is the orientation treating agent for the liquid crystal cell obtd. by using feroelectric liquid crystals or antiferroelectric liquid crystals and which uniformly controls the orientation state of the liquid crystals.
SOLUTION: At least part of the diamine component of the orientation treating agent for the liquid crystal cell consisting essentially of a tetracarboxylic acid deriv. component and the polyimide and/or polyimide precursor obtd. by bringing the diamine component into reaction polymn. is the diamine component expressed by the formula (where, (n) is an integer from 1 to 12) and imparts the graded orientation angle of ≤2° to the nematic liquid crystals.
