PURPOSE: To make the coating line applicable for multikind production in small quantities and excellent in work efficiency, by supplying a workpiece to a work stage with a feed stage, carrying it through a stand-by stage to an applicator stage with a carrier, coating it and then carrying it to a discharging stage.

CONSTITUTION: A feed stage 40, a stand-by stage 42, an applicator stage 44 and a discharging stage 46 for each workpiece are provided on the endless track of a chain 18, in a manner such that these stages are arranged in said order along the driving direction of the chain 18 while arranging the feed stage 40 adjacent to the discharging stage 46. An elevator 50, 52, 54, 56 acting as a separator for stopping the movement of a work stand 20 being carried on a carrier frame 5 after being separated from the chain 18 is provided at each stage. These elevators 50, 52, 54, 56 have the same constitution, and a lifting plate 62 is provided at each of them.
