PURPOSE: To perform an accurate shift and a continuous operation between traveling rails without changing direction by providing unit footstep groups constituted of a plurality of footsteps concurrently shifted between rails at the terminals of the traveling rails.

CONSTITUTION: A wheelchair loading escalator using three adjacent footsteps is provided with a point mechanism circulating four moving rail loading boards 7 along a square. The moving rail loading board 7 is provided with moving rails 73, 74 on a flat plate, a plurality of casters are fitted on the lower side, and cam followers 76 are fitted at four points near the center. Tandem sprockets 04 are provided at corners C1-C4 of a guide groove 03 so that the moving rail loading boards 7 are guided by the wall faces 761, 762 of the guide groove 03 provided on the horizontal floor surface at the ends of traveling rails 01, 02. Unit footstep groups 123 are quickly fed to the moving rail loading boards 7 from the traveling rails 01, 02 by friction transmission wheels 91, 92.
