To provide a compact continuously variable transmission efficiently transmitting large torque.
The continuously variable transmission comprises: a first rotational shaft 7 rotatably supported by a casing 10; a second rotational shaft 6 rotatably supported by the casing 10; a V-pulley 4 supported by the first rotational shaft 7 and having groove variable in width; a toothed ring 3 which is engaged with the V-pulley 4 and whose outer circumference is supported; a pinion 2 fixed to the second rotational shaft 6 and meshed with teeth of the toothed ring 3; and a mechanism for moving the toothed ring 3 to the circumference of the second rotational shaft 6. The toothed ring 3 and the pinion 2 are double helical gears.
