PURPOSE: To contrive to simplify both structure and control by connecting a continuously variable transmitting section arranged between an input shaft and an output shaft, a gear train and the output shaft with the respective three elements of a planetary gear mechanism.

CONSTITUTION: A continuously variable transmission 1 allows power to be inputted from an input shaft 2 so as to drive a differential gear device 4. A continuously variable transmitting section 20 and a gear train 10 are provided, which are arranged between the input shaft 2 and an output shaft 3. The continuously variable transmitting section 20, the gear train 10 and the output shaft 3 are connected with the respective three elements of a planetary gear mechanism 30. Change in the gear ratio of the continuously variable transmitting section 20 allows the rotation of the output shaft 3 to be switched over to the direction same and reverse with that of the input shaft 2, and also allows the output shaft 3 to be suspended. This constitution therefore eliminates a starting clutch and a reverse gear train, thereby making it possible to contrive to simplify both structure and control.
