Title:
CONTRA-ROTATING PROPELLER SHIP WITH COURSE KEEPING FUNCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3780342
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly provide a course keeping function by utilizing a slight difference in the number of rotations between a front propeller and a rear propeller while basically suppressing the occurrence of swirl flow to the rear by a contra-rotating propeller by turning attention to a fact that the swirl flow acts on one side surface of an upper strut to allow a steering action when the propeller is installed at the front end of a pod supported at the lower end of the strut.
SOLUTION: In this contra-rotating propeller 5, the pod 3 is fitted to the lower end of the strut 2 projected from a stern part 1 to the lower side of a ship bottom. The front propeller 5a and the rear propeller 5b rotatingly driven by motors 3a and 3b in the pod 3 are disposed at the front of the pod 3. When a hull is cruised aslant, the swirl flow generated by a difference in the number of rotations between the propellers 5a and 5b is applied to one side surfaces of the strut 2 and a fin plate 2a so that the course keeping function can be provided.
