Abstract:
PURPOSE: To practice reliable contraception by administering an aromatase inhibitor in such a dose that it gives no influence on menstrual cycle of a female primate. CONSTITUTION: The present invention provides a method for contraception in a female primate excluding a human in reproducible ages. To the female primate, an aromatase inhibitor such as 5-(p-cyanophenyl)-5,6,7,8- tetrahydrimidazo[1,5-a]pyridine is administered in such a dose that it does not substantially affect menstrual cycle of the female primate to practice contrception. Further, the aromatase inhibitor preferably exhibit an IC50 -value of <=10<-5> in terms of in vitro inhibition of an aromatase activity.
