To provide a control apparatus which is for use with a spark-ignition internal combustion engine equipped with a supercharger having a waste gate valve and which can suppress generation of misfire due to opening of the waste gate valve.
The internal combustion engine 10 has the waste gate valve (WGV) 44. When the WGV 44 is required to be opened in order to prevent knocking, the WGV 44 is actuated up to the target opening. The A/F inside the combustion chamber 14 is controlled to be shifted toward the richer side temporarily. Preferably, the A/F is controlled by increases in the amount of injected fuel. Preferably, a limitation is imposed on the speed at which the WGV 44 is opened such that the WGV 44 is gradually opened. More preferably, the opening speed of the valve is set variable according to the target opening.
