In a control device for a cylinder injection engine directly injecting fuel in a combustion chamber 16 from an injector 22, in an ECU40, when stratified combustion operation is continued to a degree of satisfying a preset operation switching condition, the operation is switched to carbon removing operation with fuel richer than that at the time of stratified combustion operation to advance injection timing of at least partly fuel, and this carbon removing operation is continued for the time or more required for sufficiently removing carbon sticking to a spark plug 20 by the stratified combustion operation.
