In the control device for the electric power steering device in which a motor for applying steering assistance force to a steering system based on a current control value operated from a steering assistance instruction value operated based on steering torque and vehicle speed and a motor current value is controlled, a fail determination means for judging and determining the fail state based on the steering torque and the difference of the steering assistance instruction value and the motor current value is provided.
