PURPOSE: To provide a control device for an escalator having a step for a wheelchair, capable of properly keeping the safety for the transport of the wheelchair user, regarding an escalator having an intermediate landing.

CONSTITUTION: Regarding an intermediate landing-equipped escalator where an intermediate landing 101 is provided at the intermediate section of an escalator 1, a speech message is produced to invite a wheelchair user's attention, depending on detection output from each of landing deceleration start limit switches 43 and 45 for detecting the arrival of a step for a wheelchair at the landing 101, and intermediate landing passage confirmation limit switches 44 and 46 for detecting the passage of the step for the wheelchair through the landing 101. At the same time, the travel speed of the step through the landing 101 is lowered during a period from the generation of detection output from the switches 43 and 45 to the generation of detection output from the switches 44 and 46.
