To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of appropriately inhibiting deterioration of drivability and deterioration of combustion due to excessive EGR in transient deceleration.
This control device for the internal combustion engine is suitably used for controlling the internal combustion engine including an EGR device. To put it concretely, the control means executes control for increasing intake air quantity greater than that in normal operation until EGR rate gets below a prescribed value if EGR rate is not less than the prescribed value, when reduction of load and rotation speed of the internal combustion engine are demanded during recirculation of exhaust gas. Temporal increase of EGR quantity, thereby can be appropriately inhibited even if control delay to a reduction side of EGR gas exists in transient deceleration exist. Consequently, deterioration drivability and deterioration of combustion caused by excessive EGR can be effectively inhibited.
