Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably restore a NOx occlusion capacity without impairing an exhaust characteristic even if rich control is required during the acceleration of an internal combustion engine, related to a control device of the on-vehicle internal combustion engine which performs lean burn operation.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 10 having an NSR catalyst 42 and an in-cylinder injection valve 22 is controlled. Stoichiometric control for operating the internal combustion engine 10 in a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio region, lean control for operating the internal combustion engine 10 in a lean air-fuel ratio region, and rich control for discharging the NOx of the NSR catalyst 42 are selectively performed. When performing the rich control by interrupting the stoichiometric control during a rise of an engine rotational speed, at least one of the following items is performed out of (1) the enhancement of fuel pressure, (2) the acceleration of a fuel injection start crank angle, and (3) the further enrichment of an air-fuel ratio at a start of the rich control compared with the case that the rich control is performed while interrupting the lean control.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
