Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate IMEP or the fluctuation amount of IMEP using an ion current detecting device inexpensively substantializable, and to efficiently and accurately control an operation state of an internal combustion engine using the calculated IMEP or its fluctuation amount.
SOLUTION: The control device for an internal combustion engine is equipped with: the ion current detecting device 3 for detecting an ion current which flows through electrodes when voltage is applied to the electrodes placed inside a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine through ions generated in the combustion chamber accompanying combustion; a parameter extractor 7 for extracting feature parameters from an ion current detected by the ion current detecting device 3; an IMEP calculator 8 for calculating the amount of IMEP using the feature parameters outputted from the parameter extractor 7; an IMEP rate of change calculator 9 for calculating the rate of change of IMEP using the feature parameters; and an ECU10 for controlling operation of the internal combustion engine based on the amount of IMEP and the rate of change of IMEP.
