PURPOSE: To provide a control device for a passenger conveyor which detects an amount of movement of a moving handrail not through a roller.

CONSTITUTION: A plurality of protrusions 12 are formed at intervals of a given distance on the back of a moving handrail 1 and a switch 13 is arranged between the protrusions 12 with a specified distance therebetween so that the switch is operable by means of the protrusions 12. Thus, there is no need for a conventional particular device, such a rollers, structure is simplified, a detecting error owing to a slip between the roller, etc., and the moving handrail is prevented and an amount of movement of the moving handrail can be detected with high precision.
