PURPOSE: To prevent changeover shock in a shock absorber control device for changing over damping force characteristic according to a road surface condition, by quickening the changeover speed of the damping force characteristic compared with the speed at the rate of change in a standard range, when the rate of change of the damping force is over the prescribed standard range.
CONSTITUTION: When a road surface condition detecting means M2 detects unevenness of a road surface condition, a damping force characteristic changeover means M3 changes over the damping force characteristic of a shock absorber M1 to the small side. Meanwhile, the rate of change of damping force detecting means M4 detects the rate of change of damping force, and sends it to a changeover speed control means M5. The changeover speed control means M5 sets the changeover speed based on the rate of change of damping force. In this case, when the rate of change of the damping force exceeds the standard range, the changeover speed is set more quickly compared with the speed at rate of change in the standard range. By this constitution, changeover shock can be prevented.
