Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To curb a reduction in a tumble ratio when an engine is rotated at a high speed with a partial load region used for lean burn operation in a spark ignition type internal combustion engine mounted with a variable intake mechanism.SOLUTION: A control device of spark ignition type internal combustion engine comprises: an ignition plug 24 which is arranged close to a central section of an upper wall of a combustion chamber 14 and ignites mixed gas; and an intake manifold 16b which has a mechanism to allow lengths of respective intake branch pipes 16b2 to be changed. In the internal combustion engine, a tumble flow flowing from an intake side to an exhaust side is generated in an upper section of the combustion chamber 14. In a partial load region used for lean burn operation, the lengths of respective intake branch pipes 16b2 are extended when an engine is rotated at a high speed longer than when the engine is rotated at a low speed.
