To provide a control device for a vehicle which can change a control algorithm easily so that an environment that a user desires can be provided, and which is adapted to permit more sophisticated prevention of a vehicle theft.
The vehicle control device of the present invention comprises a control unit provided with a first storage unit to store a vehicle control program formed of a plurality of program modules and a processing unit for making computation in accordance with this program and generating control instructions; and a portable memory unit provided with a second storage unit for storing at least program modules for forming the program, the control unit executing the program by reading out the program modules stored in the second storage member, whereby control instructions are generated.
