To reduce regenerative power consumed by a regeneration resistance while suppressing increases in device size and cost.
A method for controlling a motor connected to a regeneration circuit having the regeneration resistance for consuming at least part of regenerative power from the motor as heat energy comprises: a repetition step of repeating a driving step of driving the motor in a predetermined speed control pattern and a waiting step of stopping the motor after the driving step; a monitoring step of monitoring the status of electrical conduction to the regeneration resistance by means of a monitoring circuit during the driving step; and a modification step of modifying the speed control pattern so as to reduce the generation of the regenerative power in response to the monitoring result of the monitoring step, and lengthening the execution time of the driving step and shortening the waiting time in the waiting step in accordance with the modification of the speed control pattern.
