PURPOSE: To facilitate the power consumption of an apparatus by a method wherein a circuit which controls the power consumption is provided in an upper level controller or in a lower level magnetic recorder.
CONSTITUTION: An integrated magnetic recording apparatus is in a low power consumption state in an initial stage. An upper level control circuit 2 and the control circuits 10 of respective magnetic recorders 5, 6 and 7 are receiving interrupts only. If the request of data transfer is given from the host side, the circuit 2 releases the low power consumption state of an upper level controller 1 and, at the same time, instructs respective power consumption control circuits 11 to release low power consumption states. The instructed respective circuits 11 release the low power consumption states of the magnetic recorders 5, 6 and 7. When the preparation of the data transfer is completed, the data transfer is started. If all the data are transferred to the respective recorders 5, 6 and 7, the circuit 2 instructs the respective recorders 5, 6 and 7 to shift to the low power consumption states. After the data transfer from buffers 8 to recording medium 9 in the respective recorders 5, 6 and 7 is finished, the respective control circuits 10 put the recorders 5, 6 and 7 into the low power consumption states. Then the controller 1 also shifts to the low power consumption state.
