The control method of the printer 1 includes a step in which a paper detecting part 8 detects the absence of the rolled sheet 5, a step of carrying out the detection of the absence of the rolled sheet 5 again a predetermined time later so as to eliminate effects of chattering of the rolled sheet 5, a step of stopping the transfer of the rolled sheet 5, a step in which a lid opening and closing detecting part 30 detects opening of the lid 4, and a step of transmitting a status of the absence of the rolled sheet 5 if the rolled sheet 5 is absent and the lid 4 is not open, and transmitting a status of opening of the lid if the rolled sheet 5 is absent and the lid 4 is open.
