Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a needle bar to be held suspended in its vertical motion for an infinite period of time.
SOLUTION: In this method of controlling the needle bar cancel mechanism 7 provided with an engagement element 13 which engages with a needle bar to move the same in the vertical direction, a rotary solenoid 16 which moves the engagement element 13 from the engagement position to a retreated position of disengagement by rotating an arm 19, and a keep solenoid 17 which retains the engagement element 13 at the retreated position as a projection 21 projects into the rotational path of the arm 19 to hold the arm 19 motionless, when the vertical motion of the needle bar 4 is to be suspended for less than a predetermined period of time, the solenoid 16 alone is actuated and, after the solenoid 17 is actuated, the solenoid 16 is suspended to retain the engagement element at the retreated position.
