PURPOSE: To attain the effective use of a real circuit by defining plural links of different conditions and assigning them dynamically to a physical device number in the case the communication is carried out among many circuits via various transmission control procedures.
CONSTITUTION: The physical device numbers 41-44, 54-57, 61-64 and 66 are prepared to define the communication channels for each circuit. The group names are provided in accordance with the application programs operating on a host computer to define the attributes of the circuit types, the communication speed, the transmission control procedure, etc., which are used for communication with terminals 49-52. Then the link names are provided to define the communication enable physical circuits for groups 40, 53, 60 and 65. Furthermore a switch mechanism 45 functions to perform the dynamic switch of correspondence between the link names and those physical device numbers 41-44, 54-57, 61-64 and 62. Thus the links containing these same physical device numbers can be defined with plural groups. As a result, the accesses are possible to plural groups via the same physical circuit and the circuit availability is improved.
