Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a pottery basis material having a thermal expansion coefficient with high accuracy by blending SiO2, Al2O3 and alkaline components in a ratio satisfying a specified relationship and calcining the resultant mixture.

CONSTITUTION: In calcination of SiO2, Al2O3 and R2O (R is Na2O+K2O) using a roller hearth kiln, the respective components are blended in accordance with a thermal expansion coefficient (Y)=(0.2-0.4) [SiO2]-(0.3-0.6)[Al2O3]-(0.1-0.4)[R2 O]+C1 (Each number shows wt.% of respective component. C1 is additional constant). In case of calcination using a tunnel kiln, (Y)=(0.1-0.2)[SiO2]-(0.2-0.3)[Al2O3]+(0.4-0.8)[SiO2]/[Al2O3]+C2.
