To provide a controller for an automatic transmission capable of achieving a power-on down shift for generating a sense of acceleration which satisfies the driver.
The controller of the automatic transmission includes an ECT_ECU which executes a program consisting of a step (S300) to acquire the current position from a navigation system when the accelerator is turned on (Yes at S200), a step (S500) to make down-shift different from normal so that no large acceleration will act on the vehicle if there is a past log to show no will of down-shift about this position (Yes at S400), a step (S1000) to judge that there is no will of down-shift when a normal down-shift operation is conducted (S600) in the condition no past log exists (No at S400) and the driver turns his body as facing up (Yes at S800) and puts off the accelerator instantly (Yes at S900), and a step (S1100) to store the data in the past logistics.
