Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve controllability by providing a means of selecting any one of uniform combustion and stratified combustion, a means of setting a corresponding fuel injection method to each type of combustion for every cylinder according to the selected result, and a means of setting a corresponding ignition timing to the fuel injection method for every cylinder.
SOLUTION: Fuel injected is ignited by an ignition plug 7 for uniform combustion or stratified combustion according to an ignition signal from a control unit 20. The selection of uniform combustion or stratified combustion is made by the use of a map specifying a basic target equivalence ratio with an engine speed and a target engine torque used as a parameter of engine operation condition. According to the result of selection, a combustion injection method is set in correspondence with a combustion method in order for every cylinder. At the time of setting an injection timing for each cylinder, the ignition timing is set according to the combustion injection method for every cylinder. Accordingly, the ignition timing is made in conformity with the requirement of the fuel injection method for every cylinder, resulting in a remarkable improvement in controllability.
