Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce shock caused by a gear shift during lean-burn operation by executing speed change control according to a shiftup line which is set to a value lower than each vehicle speed corresponding to engine speed at which the operation range is switched from lean-burn to rich side or vice versa.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic transmission AT is disposed on the output side of an engine E and comprises a torque convertor C and main and subsidiary transmissions MT, ST. In this case, an operational range setting means 2 sets a lean-burn operation range in which operation is performed with the air-fuel ratio of the engine E set to lean-burn side and a rich operation range in which operation is performed with the air-fuel ratio set to rich side. Speed change control is executed by a controller 1 according to detection signals from a throttle opening sensor 3 and a vehicle speed sensor 4 and to a specific shiftup line; i.e., the specific shiftup line is set to be lower than each vehicle speed corresponding to engine speed at which the operational range is switched from the lean-burn to rich side or vice versa.
