To enable the drive of a switched reluctance motor without using a magnetic sensor by switching the current flowing to each phase winding, according to the output signal of the encoder signal that a counting means has counted and the excitation signal being made from the resolution of an encoder.
This controller is provided with an encoder 5 within a switched reluctance SR motor 1, and the A-phase signal in pulse form, the B-phase signal, and the original point signal that the encoder 5 outputs are given to an excitation deciding circuit 6 which is constituted, centering on a microcomputer. The excitation deciding circuit 6 performs current application, based on the excitation signals 1-4, to each phase winding, of an SR motor 1 through a drive circuit 7. Moreover, this excitation deciding circuit 5 incorporates a counter 6a being the up down counter to count, for example, A-phase signal outputted by the encoder 5. Accordingly, the whole can be constituted in small size and besides at low cost.
