PURPOSE: To reduce wear in a moving part by providing a zoom controller keeping a zoom lens wide till a fault detection signal is inputted and repeating zooming after the fault detection signal is inputted to the controller.

CONSTITUTION: A zoom lens 1 is set while being at a standstill in the wide angle mode in the normal image pickup state. When a suspicious looking man invaded in an image pickup area, a motion detection circuit 4a detects an extrordinary motion to send an alarm transmission command to an alarm transmission circuit 4b. A control circuit 3a receiving an alarm signal turns on/off alternately a zoomup drive circuit 3b and a zoomback drive circuit 3c to implement zooming.
