PURPOSE: To convert a mixed gas into a water gas in high conversion ratio, by setting a Fe.Cr catalystic layer following a Co.Mo catalytic layer, reacting CO with steam under specific temperature conditions.
CONSTITUTION: The mixed gas 1 of a CO-containing gas having 50W1,000ppm sulfur compound and steam is preheated to 200W300°C by the heat exchanger 10, fed to the Co.Mo catalytic layer 16 of the first conversion reactor 13, CO is partially reacted with steam to prepare H2, the temperature is kept at 300W 450°C, and the mixed gas is fed to the Fe.Cr catalytic layer 17. The temperature is a temperature suitable for the use of the Fe.Cr catalyst, and suitable for keeping the Co.Mo catalyst in a sulfide state. The mixed gas converted into a water gas is discharged from the first conversion reactor 13, subjected to heat exchange with the raw material gas 1 by the heat exchanger 10, fed to the second conversion reactor 14, further converted into a water gas by the Co.Mo catalytic layer 18, cooled by the cooler 12, further converted into a water gas by the third conversion reactor similarly, so that the whole mixed gas is converted into a water gas in high conversion ratio.
