To provide a steel-making method using a converter in which molten iron is refined in a vertical-type scrap melting furnace and a blast furnace, and even in the case of using larger quantity of iron-scrap than the conventional method as the iron-source for steel-making, the converter-operation can smoothly be performed.
Improvement is made in the steel-making method using the converter. Among two or more of molten iron holding vessels which have received the molten iron tapped off from the blast furnace, one vessel which has received the full-capacity of the molten iron is made to wait after desulfurization treatment is performed, and as for the other vessel in which the amount of received molten iron is less than the full-capacity amount, the molten iron obtained by melting iron-scrap in the scrap melting furnace provided to the blast furnace is additionally supplied up to the full-capacity, first mixing of the molten iron is performed and the desulfurize-treatment is performed. Successively, in the case of producing the molten steel in the converter, a mixing mass-ratio of the first mixed molten iron to the molten iron in the vessel kept waiting is adjusted based on the sulfur-content of the molten iron so as to settle in the permissible sulfur content of the molten steel to be produced, and the second mixing of the molten metal is performed and the second mixed molten iron is charged into the converter as the main raw material and blowing-refining is performed to the molten iron.
