To provide a conveying device for conveying a slab by using a roll which is capable of preventing any defective conveyance of the slab, enhancing the efficiency of a driving device such as a motor, and consistently realizing the original lifetime of the driving device.
Rotatable rolls R1, R2, R3, R4 are arranged on a conveying device 10 in a plurality of rows in the conveying direction of a slab S. Motors M1, M2, M3, M4 are respectively provided on the rolls R1, R2, R3, R4 via gear couplings G1, G2, G3, G4. Sprockets 21, 21 are fixed to the gear couplings G1, G2 of the rolls R1, R2 adjacent to each other, and a chain 20 for connecting the gear couplings G1, G2 is stretched between the sprockets 21, 21. Similarly, the sprockets 21, 21 are also fixed to the gear couplings G3, G4 of the rolls R3, R4 adjacent to each other, and the chain 20 is stretched between the sprockets.
