Abstract:
To detect a front and back of an envelope with high accuracy.
A conveying device includes: a conveyer for conveying an envelope 90; a light source 71 for emitting light obliquely relative to the conveyed envelope 90; a light receiving part 72 for receiving the light reflected from the envelope 90; and a determination part for determining the front and back of the envelope by detecting a shadow casted by a stepped part 93 positioned in a boundary between a barrel 91 on a side of a back surface 90b of the envelope 90 and a flap 92 based on an amount of the light received by the light receiving part 72.
