To provide a cooling device and a cooling method capable of sanitarily and stably cooling food in a storage at high humidity.SOLUTION: A cooling device 1 has: a plurality of cooling coils 31, 41 that cools air in a storage with a refrigerant circulating in the cooling device 1; and a mixing area 51 that mixes cooling air produced by sending air to one cooling coil during cooling operation and high-humidity air produced by sending air to another cooling coils during defrosting operation, to produce high-humidity cooling air.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
