To provide a cooling method for a continuous casting bloom, by which even the bottom side of the bloom in a bloom cooler can be cooled from the temperature 50°C higher than Ar3 transformation point at a cooling-rate of 10-300°C/s, by eliminating, in the bottom side, the portions that jets of cooling water do not reach due to the blocking by transfer rolls.
When cooling a bloom 2 from a temperature right above the Ar3 transformation point by using a bloom cooler 1 installed outside a continuous casting machine after cutting the bloom 2, which is cast by continuous casting, into a predetermined length, the transfer velocity of the bloom 2 is made 3-10 m/min. Thereby, the jets of cooling water 6 from under the bloom 2 are not blocked by transfer rolls 3 holding and transferring the bloom 2, so that the bloom 2, which is cast by continuous casting, is cooled in a manner that the bottom side of the bloom 2 is evenly cooled at a secured predetermined cooling-rate.
