PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling method for a hydrogenation plant capable of efficiently and quickly cooling the plant even without the need for a special cooling system.
SOLUTION: This cooling method for a hydrogenation plant comprises the following procedure: in halting the operation of the plant having a desulfurization section 1 including a heating oven 12 for a to-be-treated liquid, reaction columns 14 and 15 where sulfur is hydrogenated to form hydrogen sulfide, a hydrogen sulfide absorption column 19 for absorbing the hydrogen sulfide formed in the reaction columns 14 and 15, and a compressor 21 functioning to compress and feed the fluid from the hydrogen sulfide absorption column 19 side to the above reaction columns 14 and 15 side, in the desulfurization section 1, after stopping feeding the to-be-treated liquid, the pressure inside the hydrogenation plant system is gradually reduced toward such a level as not to cause the annealing embrittlement of the material constructing the reaction columns and a gas leakage due to the mechanical thermal expansion difference inside the system, the compressor 21 is brought to nearly the maximum rotation, and the burners 12A and 12B in the heating oven 12 are completely extinguished.
