Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer useful as an adsorbent for water treatment, additive for tobacco filter, etc., capable of adsorbing active hydrogen compounds such as phenol, comprising 4-methylene-3-phenyl-2-oxazolidones as monomer units. CONSTITUTION:(A) 4-Methylene-3-phenyl-2-oxazolidone shown by formula I (Ph is phenyl) is copolymerized with 4-methyl-3-phenyl-2-oxazolone shown by formula II and (C) an ethylenic unsaturated monomer (e.g. maleic anhydride) copolymerizable with the components A and B in a solvent such as benzene in the presence of a radical polymerization catalyst (e.g. azoisobutyronitrile) at 60 deg.C for 24 hours to give a coplymer shown by formula III [R<1> to R<4> are H, halogen, (substituted)alkyl, (substituted)aryl or carboxyl or both substituent groups of R<1> and R<2> may form ring; 1 us 0 or positive integer; m, n and h are positive integer].
