To obtain a silicone org. copolymer latex which, upon evaporation of water, forms a stable crosslinked film by forming an emulsion comprising an org. monomer, water, and a surfactant so as for the org. monomer to form a discontinuous phase and conducting copolymn. using a particular crosslinking agent.
E.g. an acrylic ester may be used as the org. monomer. E.g. TORITON X-200 may be used as the surfactant. The crosslinking agent has a structure represented by formula I or II [wherein Q represents allyl, vinyl, hexenyl or (meth)acryloxy; X represents O or NR; R represents H, a 1-8C alkyl, an aryl, or an alkylaryl; (n) is 0 or 1 to 3; (y) and (z) are each 0 to 200; z>1 when n=0; (y) and (z) are each 0 to 50; and z+y>3]. It may be, e.g. divinyltetramethyldisiloxane. The initiator is pref. ammonium persulfate. Mixing proportions (pts.wt.) of the starting compds. are 100 pts.wt. for the org. monomer, 0.25 to 7 pts.wt. for the surfactant, 0.1 to 20 pts.wt. for the crosslinking agent, 0.1 to 2 pts.wt. for the initiator, and 60 to 400 pts.wt. for water.
