PURPOSE: To obtain the titled latex capable of providing a coating paper excellent in balance of physical properties such as adhesive strength and water resistance as a binder, by subjecting a monomer mixture having a specific composition to emulsion polymerization in the presence of an aromatic vinyl-conjugated diene based block copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: 97W80% monomer mixture consisting of (B) conjugated diene based monomer (preferably 1,3-butadiene), (C) aromatic vinyl based monomer (preferably styrene), (D) ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic monomer (preferably combination of acrylic acid with methacrylic acid) and as necessary (E) the other copolymerizable monomer is subjected to emulsion polymerization in the presence of (A) 3W20wt.% aromatic vinyl-conjugated diene based blocked copolymer to provide the aimed latex containing 40W85% toluene insoluble content. The above-mentioned emulsion polymerization is preferably carried out by subjecting the emulsion of the component (A) to emulsion polymerization wit the above-mentioned monomer components using the above-mentioned emulsion.
