To obtain (co)polymers which can give electroluminescent materials having a high luminosity, a wide range of hue and being optimized in the form of a polymer layer and electrical properties by reacting a specified monomer having a photoluminescent residue with a fluorescent dye, a styrene derivative, etc., and polymerizing the product.
(Co)polymers each of which contains at least one repeating chain unit represented by formula I or II and optionally repeating units represented by formula III. The ratio of the structural units represented by formulas I and/of II is 0.5-100mol%, and the ratio of the structural units represented by formula III is 0-99.5mol% (100% in total). Each (co)polymer is obtained by preparing a monomer represented by formula I or II from a fluorescent dye containing L and OH as a functional group, a styrene derivative represented by formula IV and V or an acrylic acid derivative in the presence of a base, and polymerizing the monomer in the presence of optionally units of formula III. In the formulas, R1, R2 and R3 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl; M is CN or the like; L1 and L2 are each a photoluminescent residue; and R41 and R42 are each a halogen.
