To provide a copying method which allows appropriate copying in the case that a storage capacity is different between a master medium and a copy destination medium, and is capable of maintaining a high copy speed.
An image file and medium-peculiar information (storage capacity information) of the master medium are stored, and an operating system is made to recognize data included in the image file so as to be able to handle the data per file folder. Medium-peculiar information stored in the copy destination medium is compared with the medium-peculiar information of the master, and the data of the image file is copied as it is in the case of coincidence between the storage capacity of the master and that of the copy destination, but the data of the image file is copied per file folder in the case of non-coincidence between them. Therefore, an error caused by copying the image file in the case of non-coincidence between them is prevented. Furthermore, a copy speed does not depend upon a data transfer rate of the master medium or a speed of a reader and can be increased.
