PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for exchanging of cassettes or the like and improve the speed of copying from small size originals by automatically changing the feed direction of copying paper in variable power copying mode.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of performing variable power copying from a large size original (A3 size) to a small size (A4 size), selecting the mode in an operation display part 27 causes a lens 12 to move to the position shown by 12' and reflecting mirrors 13, 14 to the positions shown by 13', 14', thus the scaled down image is given to an exposure part 3. Since the original is disposed long from side to side, this image becomes long from side to side, becoming the one in which only the size is converted from A3 to A4 size. On the other hand, a direction changing device 26 operates to cause a paper feed tray 20 for small size to turn in the direction of supplying copying paper 21 in the longitudinal direction at the initial period of the copying cycle, after which the apparatus is put in operation state. During this turning period, a paper feed roller 22 evacuates upward. Hence, the paper 21 is conveyed in the longitudinal direction and the image on a photosensitive drum 1 and its direction coincide, thus the image is transferred without causing side protrusion.
