To obtain a readily and industrially producible high-specific gravity conjugated fiber, which is a conjugated fiber, capable of solving problems in a conventional high-specific gravity fiber and increasing the specific gravity by allowing the fiber to stand in water and having a high strength.
This high-specific gravity core-sheath type conjugated fiber comprises a core part composed of a thermoplastic polymer containing ≥25 but ≤80wt.% high-specific gravity inorganic substance and a sheath part composed of a thermoplastic polymer. The fiber satisfies characteristics that cavities or voids or both continuous in the longitudinal direction of the fiber are present in the conjugated fiber; the volume ratio of the cavities and/or voids is ≥6%; the strength of the conjugated fiber is ≥4.0g/denier and the specific gravity (ρw) after allowing the fiber to stand in water is ≥1.50.
