PURPOSE: To smoothly perform the changeover between full cylinder and idle cylinder operations in a wide range of operation, by controlling a quantity of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and correcting output power at the full cylinder operation in such a manner as to align to output power at the idle cylinder operation in a desired range of operation.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) port 3 is opened to a prescribed position in the internal wall part of an intake passage 2 in a carburetor 1, while a flow control valve 6, open-close controlled by an actuator 7, is interposed in the way of an EGR passage 5 provided in the port 3. The flow control valve 6 is opened at full cylinder operation while closed at idle cylinder operation, under an opening condition, an EGR quantity is controlled in accordance with the opening of a throttle valve 4, and output power at the full cylinder operation can be aligned to output power at the idle cylinder operation in a desired range of operation, thus changeover between the full cylinder operation and the idle cylinder operation can be smoothly performed.
