Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve rapid detection of a misregister whenever it occurs by detecting a register mark which is printed on both ends of a web and is already past a dryer and a cooling device, and thereby measuring the width of the web.
SOLUTION: The width of a web is measured by detecting register marks 107, 108 which are printed on both ends of the web and are already past a dryer 112a and a cooling device 120a, with the assistance of detectors 109, 110. Consequently, some change in the width of the web caused by the thermal effects of the dryer 112a and the cooling device 120a is reflected in the measured width of the web as a width change. Besides, the rapid detection of a misregister attributed to the change of the web width is made. In addition, the cooling conditions of the cooling device 120a for making the measured width of the web coincide with a target web width are determined by calculation. Based on these cooling conditions, the cooling device 120a is controlled.
