PURPOSE: To provide a cosmetic having excellent skin-beautifying effect and high safety, containing stable melanogenesis-inhibiting substance and especially useful as a skin cosmetic.
CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic having the above effects can be produced by compounding one or more kinds of melanogenesis-inhibiting substances collected from natural lichen, preferably lichen belonging to family Parmeliaceae, Usneaceae or Cladoniaceae to various cosmetics, preferably skin cosmetics such as cream, milky lotion, face lotion, pack, lipstick, under-makeup, foundation and sun care in an amount of 0.001-20wt.% (preferably 0.5-10wt.%) in terms of the active component based on the cosmetic. The active component can be produced by freeze-drying collected lichen, immersing in a polar solvent (preferably alcohol, ketone, ester, etc., especially alcohol) at a low temperature (preferably 0-15°C), filtering the solution and distilling away the solvent from the obtained extract.
