PURPOSE: A cosmetic that contains a higher saturated branched alkyl sulfate ester salt as a solubilizer or emulsifier as well as a hydrophilic nonionic surfactant, thus increasing water solubilization performance and stability and lowering the production costs.

CONSTITUTION: The objective cosmetic contains a higher saturated branched alkyl sulfate ester salt of the formula (m is 2W20, n is 8W22, m is not less than n; M is Na+, K+, Li+ and other monovalent cations) such as α-ethyloctyl sulfate triethanolamine as a solubilizing agent or emulsifier as well as a nonionic surfactant such as sorbitol monooleate of 4W12 HLB. The anionic surfactant of formulaIcan get the optimal HLB by controlling the length of alkyl groups. Further, since it is liquid in the system, the surfactant causes no destruction of emulsion and gives a stable solubilized system in a wide range from low temperature to high one.
