To provide a counterfeit detecting method that is performed at low cost and that makes forgery of identification tag difficult, and to provide the identification tag used for counterfeit detection, and a counterfeit detecting device used for counterfeit detection.
When a light emitting means 110 of the counterfeit detecting device 100 irradiates an exciting light L, a liquid crystalline compound 202 of the identification tag 200 irradiates polarized fluorescence P. The polarized fluorescence P has only a polarization component of the major axis direction of a molecule of the liquid crystalline compound 202. The polarized fluorescence P is incident on a plurality of polarizing plate 121 and 122, where the directions of transmission axes are mutually different. A transmitted light T1, having transmitted through the polarizing plates 121, is a relatively strong light, but a transmitted light T2, having transmitted through the polarizing plate 122, is a relatively weak light. A plurality of light-detecting means detect these, and a controlling means 140 determines the veracity/falsehood of the identification tag 200, according to the intensity of each light.
