PURPOSE: To obtain an electrode having excellent selectivity for chlorine ions and durability by applying conductive undercoating on a conductive substrate then providing a hard to dissolve chloride layer thereon, and forming an epoxy resin layer dispersed with ion exchanger liquid contg. quaternary ammonium chloride on said layer.
CONSTITUTION: After conductive undercoating 2 of silver paste or the like is applied on a conductive substrate (copper wire or the like) 1, the substrate is immersed successively in an aq. soln. of KNO3 and an aq. soln. of AgNO3 to deposit the precipitate of AgCl on the surface, whereby a hard to dissolve salt layer 3 is provided. A soln. prepd. by adding a 1-decanol soln. of a hard to dissolve quaternary ammonium salt to a mixture of a liquid epoxy resin and a curing agent as ion exchanger liquid and dispersing the same in an aq. soln. to be tested of (C8H17)3NCH3.Cl or the like is coated on the layer 3 and is solidified, whereby an ion selective film 4 is formed. The influence of disturbing ions is reduced by the provision of the layer 3, and the small sized and easy to handle selective electrode for Cl- by which the relation between potential difference and the activity of Cl- of a wide linear range is provided is obtained.
