PURPOSE: To enable the observation of the condition of a sample and to make the crucible compact and assembly easy by providing a transparent ampoule which hermetically covers the outer peripheral side of a crucible body and the positive and negative crucible electrodes projecting from one side of the crucible body.
CONSTITUTION: The sample is housed in a sample housing part 8 of the crucible body 1 to form an electric circuit in order of the positive ampoule electrode 10, the positive crucible electrode 10, the sample, an auxiliary electrode 12, an electrode plate 13, the negative crucible electrode 11 and the negative ampoule electrode 20. The ampoule 18 is internally evacuated to weld a cap 18' and thereafter, both electrodes are energized to melt the sample. The solid-liquid boundary condition, crystal growth speed, etc., of the sample can be investigated and marked by utilizing a Peltier effect at the time of growing a crystal by a horizontal type Bridgman method. Namely, the crucible body 1 is opened upward 7 and since the ampoule 18 is transparent, the condition of the sample is observable from the outside in the upper part direction of the crucible body 1.
